I started off down this rabbit hole wanting to mess around with Pi Hole as a dedicated appliance, and my first Raspberry Pi 4B 8GB has been running Pi Hole flawlessly with a single 512GB Sandisk SD card.
Then I thought, gee, I could use a Pi for a tiny desktop couldn't I? And since they were cheap, I bought another one, this time with a VESA mount case, fan and heatsink set, and a 1TB SD card.
Long story short, the RPi 4B honestly annoyed the snot out of me as a potential desktop but was interesting enough I jumped on a 5 when I could. But I now have a 4B doing nothing...
Well boredom and a bunch of media files clogging up an old USB attached spinning disk hard drive, plus a 2TB USB SSD sitting around unused apparently were screaming my name insisting I put something together...
Well pop that 1TB SD card out, don't worry, it'll get used elsewhere, and then load Raspberry Pi OS Lite 64 bit onto the USB SSD and overclock it a bit and get it running with CasaOS and the Plex containerized app.
Shoving my media files over to it now.
Most of my media files are on an old beat to snot Windows 10 host my late wife used and honestly hasn't been online for a couple of years. So pull the NIC cable and see what I can shove off to a separate USB drive and finally onto my win11 laptop, virus scanned then shoved up to the Plex instance...
I have never used Plex before, but have heard enough good about it to want to give it a shot...
So I guess here goes nothing...
