Beginners • SSH to Raspberry Pi Zero W

Hi,
I recently bought a Raspberry Pi Zero W just for fun and learning. I am a complete beginner with the Raspberry Pi's so I watch tutorials on how to start and boot my Pi. I really want to learn it the hard way by starting headless. That's everything about me, now the problem.

I want to use ssh (Putty) to connect to my Pi, so I flash the Pi with the official imager, I fill in every setting like SSID, password etc. I enable SSH and then I flash it. The Pi then boots kinda successfully (the LED turns on).

To putty in it I first found the IP address (192.168.178.171) of the Pi, but when I try to "Putty" in it, it says Connection Timed Out and when I ping it in CMD it says that destination is unreachable. What am I doing wrong?

Things I tried:
  • adding a wpa_supplicant file like the tutorials
  • added ssh file
  • Rebooted many times
  • Flashed again and again
  • Tried our guest network (Here happened something interesting, it worked when I turned off the client insulation on this network, but because of security risks we want to have that on. So we would like to connect to the home network with client insulation off by default but that then didn't work anymore)
We got a WPA2 AES network, I don't know if that helps.
I am on a Windows 11 PC. And remember I want to do it HEADLESS

Thank you for your help,
Joshua
