I recently bought a Raspberry Pi 5 (8GB version) and have been struggling to get it running. Here’s a summary of what happened and what I’ve tried so far.
Once I got the Pi it took me a few days to get the OS onto the micro-SD card, since my first card turned out to be bad. In the meantime, I powered the Pi on without the SD card and it was outputting the diagnostic data as it supposed to. It worked just fine before I attempted to boot up from an SD card.
After getting a new card, I successfully flashed the Raspberry Pi OS (32 bit lite version) onto a new SD card and inserted it into the RPi5. It seemed to start setting up, but then the LED started flickering strangely, and the Pi restarted several times. I turned it off by unplugging the cable. This may or may not be the cause of this issue.
After that, it refused to boot altogether. Now, when I try to power it on (even without an SD card) the LED blinks green 4 times (3 long, 1 short) on power on, then the pattern repeats and the Pi doesn’t output any video (not even the diagnostic screen).
What I’ve Tried So Far:
1) Tested with multiple power supplies (including the official supply for RPi4)
2) Inspected the board for physical damage (everything looks fine).
3) Disconnected the fan and removed the case (just in case it was somehow shoring something)
4) Disconnected all peripherals (SD card, HDMI, USB devices) and tried to power it on with just the power supply.
5) Attempted to turn the board off and back on using the power button.
6) Left the board disconnected for ~10 minutes to see if it would reset itself.
None of this helped. I’m still getting the same LED pattern and no video signal. I’m using a new 8GB model, purchased from an unauthorised retailer.
