Raspberry Pi Connect • RPI connect won't start on model 3B

Like others, I cannot get rpi connect to start and I have read the posts.

uname -a
Linux raspberrypi 6.6.31+rpt-rpi-v8 #1 SMP PREEMPT Debian 1:6.6.31-1+rpt1 (2024-05-29) aarch64 GNU/Linux

$ cat /etc/os-release

$ cat /etc/rpi-issue
Raspberry Pi reference 2024-03-15

rpi connect is enabled.

I have tried rebooting and running "systemctl --user start rpi-connect" the connect icon does not show on the panel.

I have run "journalctl --user --follow --unit rpi-connect --unit rpi-connect-wayvnc".

This causes the console to freeze and the green LED beside the power LED slowly blinks. After 15 minutes of no other activity I've tried a reboot.

It's been many months since I used my pi and I notice that it seems to run slower than ever. I could be mistaken and I may have forgotten how slow it is. I originally had the 32 bit version of the Bookwork installed, the 64 bit version hasn't made any noticeable difference.

Can anyone suggest something that I've overlooked?

Edit: The pi is so slow to the point of being unusable. I wonder if the SD card may be faulty?

Anther edit several hours later:

I ran the speed test and the SD card failed. So I reformatted the card and reloaded the system, this time the card passed the speed test. However, again the connect icon does not appear on the panel.

Any ideas will be gratefully appreciated.
