Now that we have pinctrl, we can do what I call BeagleBone Style GPIO pin management, where a single device tree overlay BB-GPIO.dtbo enables all of the hardware subsystems without configuring any of the GPIO pins. The BeagleBone project arrived at that simple solution after many years of agony (cape manager et al).
May we have the equivalent of BB-GPIO.dtbo for each Raspberry Pi board included in the Raspberry Pi kernel build now?
