Troubleshooting • Connecting BT xbox controller to raspberry pi when connection is stable on pi end but controller is still flashing

I wanted to drop in because this was a problem that I had been fighting for quite some time. There are a lot of posts about connecting to Bluetooth using Xboxdrv and going into the Bluetoothctl. But not many places had info on if the controller was messing up and what to do about it. So here is a little that I found.

Part 1:

After following the steps above if Bluetoothctl is showing a stable connection but the controller is still flashing in "connect" mode:

Part 2:
The only thing that worked was updating the Xbox controller firmware:
1. Connect the controller to a Windows 10+ PC via a wired connection
2. Download, if you don't already have it, the Xbox Accessories app
3. When the app is opened there will be a prompt at the bottom of the screen where you can choose to update your controller
4. After this is complete follow the steps in Part 1, hopefully this works for you!
