General • Placement of decoupling capacitors in RP2040 board design

Hi All,

Possibly a very simple and obvious question. I'm trying to design a simple board based on the RP2040. Raspberry Pi provide some pretty detailed documentation (https://datasheets.raspberrypi.com/rp20 ... rp2040.pdf) on doing so, however there's something about it I don't understand. On page 8, we have the decoupling capacitors section. The schematic in figure 5 appears to differ quite significantly from the layout of the pcb, and yet placement of capacitors is clearly very important and considered. In the schematic, capacitors are connected close to the pins and not in a merged group after the pins have been connected. I don't know how to marry these two things - if I produced the circuit as laid out in the schematic, would it work? I do need to study the traces and vias a bit more. I'm sure it's obvious, but I'm not very experienced in mcu circuit design (yet). Thanks :)
