Interfacing (DSI, CSI, I2C, etc.) • [RPI5] Can MIPI CSI2 receiver support virtual channel?

Hello,

Our company has a bridge chip, PR2100, that converts TV signals (NTSC/PAL) and analog HD (AHD, TVI, CVI standards) into MIPI output. It takes two channels of video input and converts them into a single MIPI signal. With this bridge chip, it is possible to receive four FHD@30fps YUV422 video streams through a single MIPI port. Theoretically, with the RPI5, it should be possible to receive eight video streams.

I have three questions:

1. When outputting via MIPI, the bridge chip transmits the analog input video from channel 0 to virtual channel 0, and the video from channel 1 to virtual channel 1. I would like to know if the RPI5 supports virtual channels.

2. The current setting is 1920x1080@30fps, YUV422, with two-channel output. The issue is that the MIPI clock frequency is 594 Mbps, which exceeds 1.0 Gbps per lane. I would like to know if the RPI5 can receive this data rate.

3. If we use virtual channels, would there be any additional work required in the device tree or driver? I would appreciate it if you could share any reference examples.

Thank you
