General • macOS - USB Hub Disconnects when Pico Plugged In

As the title says - when I plug the Pico into a powered USB hub the entire hub disconnects from the Mac and all devices on the hub vanish. The hub is a good quality Corsair USB100 powered hub that otherwise works flawlessly. This happens even if nothing else is plugged in to the hub. This is an Intel MacBook Pro running Sequoia 15.4.1.

The Pico only has a Pico Debugger connected to it, also onto the same hub. This does not happen if I hold the Pico button while connecting USB and the Pico file system mounts to the Mac. The Pico otherwise seems to be working fine - I have been using it for some embedded development using FreeRTOS. When the debugger is running in VS Code everything seems to work just fine.

Using

Code:

ioreg -p IOUSB -l -w 0 t
I can see the USB hub is simply gone when the Pico is plugged in.

The only thing I can think of is the Pico is not working as a USB device (this would be expected, my project does not use USB) and this is somehow causing the hub to crash. The only reason I plug the Pico in by its USB connector is to get power. Otherwise I have no explanation. Can anyone provide some insight?
