Hello to the forum, first time-poster here!
I recently got the rpi 5 and managed to get it working. I connected it to my computer with an ethernet cable and I'm using my pc's screen/keyboard/mouse over vnc. I don't have the the official psu. I tried using phone chargers but it constantly warned me about low voltage, though that's not a surprise as they're meant for charging and not meant to be used as a stable source of power. I'm however using a powerbank now which seems to have a stable connection. In the powerbank it says it's 5.0V-2.4A. It has a different port that's 5.0V-3.0A but using it I experience the same occasional voltage warnings I get with phone charges so I guess it has one port for "stable power" and one for charging devices with batteries. I'm now using the first mentioned port, haven't had any problems but it shows the yellow flash icon everytime I use it.
I have three options. First is to buy the official 27W psu (26€ at a local store). Second is to try a dell laptop charger. I'm afraid of testing it because I don't want to brick my board. On the back it says 5.0V=3.0A/15.0W, 15.0V=3.0A/45.0W, 9.0V=3.0A/27.0W, 20.0V=4.5A/90.0W. The third option is to just keep using the powerbank since I haven't had any problems. What would you do?
