I got luckily with my Pimoroni order, and just got a Pi 500 in the post to swap out for the Pi 400 I’ve used for a couple of years.
While the performance is much better, my Pi seems to have some serious build quality issues I’ve not seen in the previous model.
Despite having 4 rubber feet (only 2 on the Pi 400) it rocks corner to corner like the whole unit is bowed. Also the middle of the keyboard feels like it isn’t supported and sinks when pressed. Combined and it’s a really noisy and uncomfortable unit to type on compared to the Pi 400 and the official keyboard.
I also have an issue with the power light. I can’t find a documentation on it, but it seems to go out at random for periods, flicker or turn of then randomly come back on, like it’s not mounted right. Could be the behaviour (maybe CPu is busy?) but there’s no documentation I can find on it.
Overall I’m pretty unimpressed compared to the Pi 400. I might even keep using the old unit as my general use computer as the low speed is less of an issue for me than the rocking. It functions fine so I’m not sure I can return it.
Is it just me, did I get lucky with my earlier models? Or does anyone else have this with the 500 specifically? I’m imagining it’s my unit and not a bad plastic mould as surely the reviewers on YouTube and such would notice this?
