Using my Pi5 with Raspbian for almost a year. It has been fantastic. A couple months ago the browsers began to jump around whenever I typed.
I will open a browser, click in the search bar and the flashing line will appear for me to type. I will go to type and only a small handful of keys will actually type what they are supposed to and the rest will perform odd hotkey behavior instead of typing. Opening word searches, alternate search bars I never knew existed and a surprising amount of keys will scroll jump around but not in any way that makes sense. Sometimes it won't do anything at all and refuse to type until I press tab and/or space bar to get the keyboard back on track. I can then click the search bar again and type but for every new page or page refresh it will stop listening and act strangely again. If I leave a browser open sometimes it will just scroll jump by itself to a seemingly random spot on the webpage and when I scroll back to where it was it will immediately shoot back to where it decided it wanted to be. This is insanely frustrating. It only happens in web browsers. I have tried many browsers and its all the same.
Below are the only keys that will type anything and every other will jump me out of the scroll bar and hop around the page or do nothing at all. I have to click back in the search bar for each key whether they work or not.
Keys that type what they should when keyboard is in confused state: w[ ]j;'zn./7890
I have:
- disabled any and all extensions and pluggins
- tried 3 other keyboards and the problem remains (2 USB and 2 bluetooth total)
- changed every setting that might remotely relate to keyboard functions within the browsers
- cycled through each USB on the Pi5
- scoured the internet and posted in other forums and I can't find any solutions. Some have had a similar sounding problems but had a simple solution that did not work for me. Solutions like disabling Auto scroll and disabling efficiency settings.
Most recently I wiped and installed a fresh Raspbian OS (which fixed it for about a week and then it started back up)
I don't think I have anything strange or invasive installed. Nothing adventurous at least. Everything has been installed through PiApps.
I am very new to Raspberry and linux. I have casually explored this cool new hobby.
I have the Pimaroni NVMe hat and SSD, a 10" waveshare touchscreen (problem persists with or without touch), A second screen (22" Huion drawing tablet, USB not plugged in - Just HDMI) for maps and quests while gaming on my PC. A USB keyboard and a wireless mouse with USB dongle. Changing mouse does not correct the issue. Problem persists if waveshare screen is the only screen connected.
If anyone can help I would be eternally grateful. I love my Pi5 and have only just begun really exploring it.
