Compute Module • question on CM4 and CM5 compatibility

Hi,

I’m new to Raspberry Pi, so I apologize if my question isn’t very clear.

I’m currently building a 3D printer that uses the CM4 on the mainboard (BigTreeTech Manta M8P), and I’m wondering if the CM5 could directly replace the CM4 without any issues.

The CM4 works perfectly on the BigTreeTech Manta M8P. However, I came across an article today that mentions some differences in pin mapping between the CM4 and CM5. The article, https://bret.dk/raspberry-pi-compute-mo ... er-better/, specifically discusses this under the section titled “Is the CM5 Pin Compatible with the CM4?”. The author highlights that about 23 pins are mapped differently based on the datasheets for the CM4 and CM5.

Given these differences, I’m concerned whether the CM5 would be fully compatible with the Manta M8P without modifications. Since I have no prior experience with Raspberry Pi, I’d appreciate any insights or advice from those more experienced.

Thank you!
