Compute Module • CM5 Dev Kit Fan Clearance issue

I just got my CM5 dev kit from Canakit. Arrived 2 days after ordering - kudos. I assembled it and found that the fan and CM5 module with heatsink did not fit inside the metal case.
The following is what I measured with Mititoyo micrometer.
The enclosure has an inside clearance of 25.5mm, that is from the bottom surface of the top cover to the top surface of the bottom case when assembled.
The IO PCB board top to the top surface of the bottom case is 5.5mm.
The CM5 with heatsink is 15.1mm from the IO board top to top of the heatsink, or 20.6mm from the top surface of the case bottom to the top of the heatsink (5.5mm + 15.1mm).

The fan has a 7.3mm height and is mounted flush to the top case. It is mounted with 10mm length flat head phillips screws.
This leaves 4.9mm (25.5mm - 20.6mm) clearance for a 7.3mm fan. Even with the screws reversed, it will not fit.

There is a heatsink with integrated fan that will work but couldn't buy it yet in the States.
Temporarily, I mounted the fan on top of the box and cut a hole to pass the fan connector through.
The cooling is a bit less than optimum.
