Automation, sensing and robotics • Connecting Pi to 120VAC wall powered winch for control

I am doing a senior design project in which we need to take a Raspberry Pi and have it basically act as a replacement to the winch’s control (it can tell it to wind, unwind, and e-stop) and we found the wires controlling each function by taking apart the remote. The capacitor in the winch makes the voltage on the remotes switch go up to 240VAC and most likely over 10A, so a normal relay won’t be enough to connect to the pi due to the pi’s low switching voltage. I proposed using a relay connected to the pi which would then connect a power supply to a contactor that was connected to the winch to control it, but I have been told this would require three contactors (one for each input). Is there any way to make this circuit more efficient and cheap where there is something to handle the current of the winch but also be activated by the 3.3 or 5V from the pi? Perhaps a converter to step up the voltage from the pi for a more powerful relay that can handle the winches voltage and amperage?
