Java • Java font problem/question

I'm developing a java application for the Pi. It (obviously) runs on Windows as well.

One peculiar thing I've noticed is not exactly life-threatening, but I wonder if anyone can tell me what is causing it, and if there is a solution.

The very first time I run my prog after booting the Pi, the menu bar and menus are not smoothed (anti-aliased). The second and all subsequent times I run the prog, they are smoothed. I'm attaching a couple of screenshots.

It's not a huge problem... but it doesn't happen in Windows, and I'd hate for Linux to be inferior in any way! :-)

Any ideas? Is it Raspbian, the JVM or possibly the VNC server (I'm running the Pi headless).

I'm running the latest Raspbian (bookworm) 64 bit, although I've noticed the problem in 32 bit Raspbian too,
and using the default JVM: 17.0.11.
According to my prog: Debian JVM 17.0.11, version 17.0.11+9-Debian-1deb12u1 on Linux 6.6.31+rpt-rpi-2712

Here are the two screenshots: the difference is subtle, but it's there! (I'm not sure if I have succeeded at inserting the images - sorry!)
