For my civil engineering project I need to make a picam contraption that can be deployed to sites such as mines and cliff faces, which will then take pictures and analyse slope stability using opencv lib.
I am a bit unsure of what camera to get at this point. At first I was set on getting a Module 3 camera as the price and resolution are very strong (forgot to mention it needs to be a low cost solution). I am unsure if I should get the NoIR version or not. As I don't really care for the image as it will be processed by computer vision and cloud point software such as CloudCompare and Pix4d, but then again as it is landscape shots it won't really provide a detailed image anyways and costs more.
I'm thinking of getting the Pi5 B 4gb, but could downgrade to a Pi 4 B 2GB as the open cv image analysis will probably be done on a computer and transferred via FTP or some other means. The main board however will likely need a GPS receiver and perhaps a RTC as well which is why I'm leaning to the Pi 5.
If I could get any advice on selecting the right camera and board it would be greatly appreciated or if any of you think I'm over complicating this as well please let me know. Computer engineering is not my specialty.
