Troubleshooting • After the 'Welcome to Raspberry Pi' Screen - blank display

I finally acquired a Pi5 and used an image from my Pi4 (originally Raspberry Pi reference 2023-10-10 - fully updated) with changes to hostname etc.

I normally run headless and use VNC if I want a Desktop.

It works, and I can access over ssh & VNC but I was unable to boot to Desktop; it is OK if I boot to command line but after the 'Welcome to Raspberry Pi' Screen I just had a blank display

kmsprint -m shows:-

Code:

Failing to find any way to force resolution I looked at .config/wayfire.ini and found:-

Code:

[output:HDMI-A-1]mode = off
Changing the last to mode = on resulted in a working Desktop.

In the process of debugging I tried the Pi4 (which as far as I can remember was setup on the same monitor) and found the same.

My question is does anyone have any idea how this may have happened?
Is there any way of "fixing" this (other than editing ) wayfire.ini?
